Contact person: Dr. Hannelore Neuhauser
The aim of the research project is to conduct a national survey and analysis of the distribution of the main risk factors for cardiovascular diseases in adults in Germany. Regional differences will also be identified. The research project of the RKI will be carried out in the scope of the “Cardiovascular Prevention” research programme of the German Centre for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK).
The Robert Koch Institute is to become an associated partner in the DZHK, one of four new German centres for health research established by the Ministry of Education. 26 university and non-university research facilities are to work together at seven locations under one virtual roof in order to advance the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The aim of the Department of Epidemiology and Health Monitoring at the Robert Koch Institute will be to investigate the prevalence and determinants of cardiovascular risk factors in Germany within the framework of the “Cardiovascular Prevention” research programme of the DZHK.
In addition to large regional population studies, the nationwide representative national health surveys of the Robert Koch Institute will provide the base data for this purpose.
