Disease knowledge and information needs – diabetes mellitus

The aim of the study is to collect population-representative data regarding information needs, risk perception, disease knowledge and utilization of health care services in context of diabetes. Therefore, in 2017 a telephone based health survey of 1500 adults with and 2500 adults without diabetes was conducted at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in cooperation with the company USUMA GmbH. The gained knowledge enables the specific targeting of information campaigns and the improvement of access to diabetes patients and healthy individuals with a high diabetes risk.

The study was approved by the data protection officer of the RKI and the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI). Furthermore the study received positive vote by the ethical commission of the Berlin Chamber of Physicians (Eth-23/17).
