Undiagnosed diabetes and prediabetes in the adult population in Germany

Temporal and individual changes between 1997-99 and 2008-11

Contact: Dr. Christin Heidemann, Dr. Christa Scheidt-Nave

Within the project the following questions will be addressed for the adult population in Germany:

  1. Assess magnitude and temporal changes of undiagnosed diabetes and prediabetes based on the A1c measurements
  2. Assess magnitude and temporal changes of established diabetes risk factors in context of the German diabetes risk score
  3. Estimate potential for prevention of glycemic progression (e.g. progression of prediabetes to diabetes) in context to modifiable risk factors
  4. Analyze the relationship of undiagnosed diabetes, prediabetes and A1c levels with premature mortality

The analysis bases on two health interview and examination surveys, which have been conducted in a ten year time interval by the Robert Koch Institute (BGS98, DEGS1)

Duration: September 2013 – August 2016

Data source: BGS98, DEGS1
