Blood pressure in adults

Prevalence, determinants and healthcare of high blood pressure (hypertension) in Germany

Contact person: Dr. Hannelore Neuhauser

High blood pressure is the most important modifiable risk factor for mortality and therefore has very high public health relevance. The surveys of the Robert Koch Institute offer nationwide data about prevalence and healthcare of high blood pressure in Germany. 10 years after the German National Health Interview and Examination Survey 1998 (GNHIES98), the basic epidemiological data on blood pressure in adults in Germany was analysed with data from the DEGS1 2008-2011 study.

Various research projects cover the development and determinants of high blood pressure in Germany, the interaction with cardiovascular risk factors, as well as healthcare and regional differences. A methodical project deals with the comparison of different blood pressure monitors.

Duration / status: ongoing

Data sources: DEGS, GNHIES98

Project type: Research project, doctoral study

Cooperation partners: German Centre for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK), Global Burden of Metabolic Risk Factors of Chronic Diseases Collaborating Group (Blood Pressure)
