Following a request for EMT assistance from the Ministry of Health, Malteser International deployed an EMT to Cameroon for almost six weeks at the end of June. A staff member of the EMT NFP at ZIG supported the mission as part of the EMT for three weeks on site. The six experts visited hospitals, COVID-19 treatment centres and test stations in the capital Yaoundé and in Douala. Based on the assessments, Malteser International EMT advised the Ministry of Health and the staff of the health facilities in dealing with the pandemic and implementing infection prevention and control measures. During several IPC trainings more than 150 doctors and health care workers were trained in the use of personal protective equipment for COVID-19.
