New RKI location in Berlin

A new location in Gerichtstrasse replaces the location in General-Pape-Strasse, which has been the headquarters of the Department of Epidemiology and Health Monitoring for many years. In addition to the Department of Epidemiology and Health Monitoring, Gerichtstraße also houses the Centre for International Health Protection (ZIG), parts of the administration and the in-house print shop.

The Epidemiologisches Bulletin 16/2025 presents a first evaluation of the mandatory reporting of severe Clostridioides difficile infections in Germany since its legal introduction in 2016. The National Reference Center for C. difficile has gained experience with both, ribotyping and whole genome sequencing (WGS) for some time and is offering exclusively WGS since January 2024.

Oral diseases interact with noncommunicable diseases such as diabetes mellitus. In the German Health Update (GEDA 2019/2020-EHIS) study, people were asked by telephone about the presence of diabetes and the state of their teeth and gums.
